PADDINGTON ACADEMY STUDENTS VISIT BUCKINGHAM PALACE
On the 28th February Mrs Snow, Director of Student Support (6th Form) and two Year 12 students – Moussa Hassan Sadek and Duha El Souss – were invited to Buckingham Palace to give a presentation and talk about their experiences of Outward Bound. The event was held in the Chinese Room which leads on to Buckingham Palace’s famous balcony. The invited audience was made up of individual and corporate sponsors of the Outward Bound Trust as well as staff from OB. Outward Bound is an educational charity that inspires young people to fulfill their potential through challenging outdoor experiences. 60 Sixth Form students at Paddington Academy have participated in a residential leadership course at Aberdovey in Wales, 60 more will be going to Loch Eil in Scotland and Ullswater later this year. To enable the students to access this opportunity, they receive a bursary from the Outward Bound Trust.
Mrs Snow gave a presentation on the positive impact the programme has had on students at Paddington Academy. Moussa and Duha spoke about their individual experiences. It was also an opportunity to thank the sponsors on behalf of the schools who receive bursaries. Before they left they were introduced to HRH Prince Andrew who is a patron of the trust.
Moussa said: “I will never forget this day,I can’t believe people were so interested in what we had to say!” Mrs Snow added, “It was an absolute privilege for us to represent Paddington Academy plus all the schools in the country who benefit from the bursary. Without it our students would not have a chance of the experience, which takes them out of their comfort zones, in the most beautiful parts of the UK.”
