Welcome to Year 7
As a Head of Year 7, I believe it is extremely important that parents/guardians feel part of their child’s education process and that parents/guardians are kept informed of all aspects of their experience and learning at Paddington Academy. This year’s results at Paddington Academy were outstanding-the highest achieved to date and I am confident that with hard work and focus our current year 7’s will do even better by the time they reach years 10 and 11. All students will benefit from time and effort invested now and significant academic success can be achieved by adopting a disciplined approach to study and a positive attitude to all subjects and learning. I have been extremely impressed by the mature attitude Year 7 have shown since beginning at Paddington Academy, and am looking forward to working with the Year group in order to bring out the Academy motto – ‘The Best in Everyone.’ This information pack is designed to provide you with important information which will help you and your child make the most of the learning opportunities here at Paddington Academy. How can I get more involved as a parent?
|
||
|
Through Parents Forum
Come along to a Parents Forum evening. This group meet once each half term and meetings are open to all interested parents /carers. They are lively sessions which prove to be a good place to meet other parents, join in discussions , listen to guest speakers, learn more about the working of Paddington Academy and to work together with us to further improve the learning experiences of our students.
Discussions in this group have led to proposals for change which have been implemented.
The next Parents Forum is on Monday 3rd October at 6.30. For further information please visit Parent Zone on the website, or contact Gina Lansley @ gina.lansley@paddington-academy.org.

| Parents’ Support Advisor (PSA) | ||
|
At Paddington Academy we recognise the important role parents play in helping us to ensure positive school experience and successful outcomes in terms of exams. We have a Parent’s Support Advisor whose role is to develop and maintain strong home school links and to be an important point of contact for parents. The PSA also runs Parenting Classes and Parent’s discussion groups . Please contact Gina for more information regarding these opportunities. The PSA is not the first point of contact in terms of academic achievement or for day to day school issues. However, the PSA is available should parents feel their particular situation is not being resolved. The PSA may also be able to help with accessing other services within the community or with guidance on issues related to their child’s school experience. The PSA at Paddington Academy is Gina Lansley and she can be contacted on 020 7479 3945 or e-mail at gina.lansley@paddington-academy.org |

| HOW CAN I SUPPORT MY CHILD AT PADDINGTON ACADEMY? |
|
| ENSURE YOUR CHILD MAINTAINS FULL ATTENDANCE
We expect every child to attend at least 96% of the time and our aim is for 100% attendance. If attendance falls below this level, the Educational Welfare Officer will intervene. High attendance is closely linked to high academic achievement.
|
|
| CONTACT THE ACADEMY IF YOUR CHILD IS UNWELL
If your child is unwell you should telephone 020 7479 3900 before
8.15am. You should then speak to a member of your child’s year team to
explain the absence. When your child returns to school, they will need
to bring a written and signed note with them to further explain the
absence.
|
|
| MEDICAL APPOINTMENTS
Where possible, please ensure that medical appointments are booked
outside of Academy hours. Where this is not possible, your child must
get a ‘sign out slip’ from either the Student Support Mentor or Head of
Year and show this to the Attendance Officer when they leave the
premises. Evidence is required for medical and dental appointments.
|
|
| SIGN THE STUDENT PLANNER EVERY WEEK
You should check the homework diary for notes from teachers and check that your child is recording and completing set homework.
|
|
| HELP YOUR CHILD PREPARE THEIR BAG FOR SCHOOL EACH MORNING
Your child will need to have the correct books and equipment for their
lessons each day, PE or Dance kit where necessary, a reading book,
school planner and a fully equipped pencil case. If your child does not
have a packed lunch or is not entitled to Free School Meals, they will
also need lunch money.
|
|
| ATTEND ALL PARENTS’ EVENINGS OR MORNINGS
It is very important that there is a strong link between home and school
in order to support your child. Attending these events will give you a
very clear idea of how your child is doing and will help us to address
any problems.
|
|
| ENSURE YOUR CHILD LEAVES FOR SCHOOL IN GOOD TIME AND EATS A GOOD BREAKFAST
It is very important that your child leaves enough time to allow for
delays in transport coming to school. Lessons begin promptly at 8.30am
so we ask that your child is at school no later than 8.20am. The
Academy runs a breakfast club in the canteen from 7.45am, where toast,
juice and hot chocolate is served for a small price.
|
|
| ENSURE YOUR CHILD IS CORRECTLY DRESSED BEFORE LEAVING HOME
Students who are incorrectly dressed will be sent home to change.
Students must not be wearing any jewellery, nail varnish or make up.
Students will be asked to remove make up and nail polish before they are
allowed to enter the academy.
|
|
| ENCOURAGE YOUR CHILD TO ESTABLISH A HOMEWORK ROUTINE
It is important that your child develops good study habits early on in
secondary school in order to avoid falling behind. Your child should
spend at least 40 minutes a day on homework.
|
|
| KEEP CONTACT DETAILS CURRENT AND UPDATED
Please ensure we always have the correct and current contact details in
case of any emergency. It is your responsibility to inform us when you
move house or change your mobile or landline number.
