YEAR 7 DANCE LEARNING OVERVIEW 2011-2012

Contact: ‘Parqour’
 
This unit is aimed at developing duets and choreographic skills based on and around the idea of ‘Parqour’ (free running). Students will learn a variety of teacher led lifts, holds, slides and balances. This will develop confidence and knowledge of the key basic dance actions, whilst encouraging students to develop skills and awareness when working with others.   

 

Gesture:

Students develop an insight on how to develop choreography based on gesture (everyday movements). Students will gain an understanding of the basic body actions in dance and will begin to develop an understanding of basic choreographic principles.

Introduction to professional work
Props.
Stomp

Students analyse professional work and use this as a stimulus. Students develop skills and understanding in the use of props within their choreography

Cultural Dances
Students will gain knowledge and understanding of cultural dance.

This will develop their movement vocabulary and technique

SUMMER TERM 1
17th April-1st June

SUMMER TERM 2
11th June-19th July

Cultural Dances
Students continue to broaden their movement vocabulary and understanding of social dance. They look at where this originated and how this influenced other styles.

Introduction to professional work: Still life at the penguin café.
Introduction to professional work based on current global issues. Students develop an understanding of how dance can be used as a form of artistic expression
