YEAR 7 MATHEMATICS LEARNING OVERVIEW 2011-2012

AUTUMN TERM 1
7th September-22nd October

AUTUMN TERM 2
31st October-16th December

Students will study all mathematical areas such as number & numeracy, algebra, geometry.
 
During the first 2/3 weeks students will be focusing on Shapes and working on a rich task called ‘ PENTOMINOES’ Rest the remaining weeks student will be focusing on Algebra, number and will learn Sequences and rules, Functions and mapping Multiply and divide decimal numbers, Solving mathematical problems. Students will sit for an end of term assessment on all topics.

Students will study all mathematical areas such as Data, Number & numeracy, and Algebra.

Under Data students will learn topics such as, Finding Mode, Median, Range of data, mean, Probability of an event, Reading statistical diagrams. Under Number; solving problems with fractions and percentage, mental calculations. Under Shapes; Calculating unknown angles.

SPRING TERM 1
4th January-10th February

SPRING TERM 2
20th February-30th March

During this term students will be focusing on Algebra, Data, Shapes and numeracy

Students will spend more time on mental arithmetic skills.

Under Algebra students will be learning Mapping into graphs and problems about straight line graphs. Under data they will learn how to find finding the man of group data and interpret the results. Students will sit for an end of term assessment on above topics.

Student will cover the topics such as Square, cube, prime and triangle numbers, Finding square and cube root of numbers. Working out percentages, Calculating ratio and proportions. Under Shapes Measuring and drawing angles, Constructing triangles and quadrilaterals, Solving geometrical problems. Once a fortnight they will learn numeracy skills

SUMMER TERM 1
17th April-1st June

SUMMER TERM 2
11th June-19th July

Students will cover topics under Algebra and shapes and some number The will learn how to transform shapes from one position to another by rotation, reflection and Translations. Under algebra they will learn how to solve equations and substitute numbers in to formulae and expressions. Students will sit for an end of term assessment on above topics There will also complete mental arithmetic test.

Students will study Add, subtract Multiply and divide decimals without a calculator, work out Fraction and Percentage of a quantity. Solving harder liner equations involving 2 stages Construct pi-charts, Comparing and analysing data, Carrying our statistical surveys

All students will sit an end of year exam and a mental Arithmetic test in June.
