RESISTANT MATERIALS LEARNING OVERVIEW 2010-2011

Spot light project
Students will design and manufacture an aluminium spot light for Autumn Term 1 and 2. |
Continuation of their spot light project.
By the end of the term
students will have completed a variety of creative sketching skills as
well as a range of practical skills.
Key skills: Marking out, sawing, filing, drilling, joining, finishing, evaluating |

Flat-pack furniture project
Students will design and manufacture a piece of flat-pack furniture which will provide them with the underpinning skills essential to their success in both the written paper and controlled assessment. |
Development of Flat-pack furniture project.
Students will analyse their
3D models to help them realise their final designs, before manufacture.

Kandinsky-inspired clock project.
Students will research the context of their project before sketching and modelling their design. This project will include all of the underpinning theory required for plastics (properties of thermoplastics and thermosetting plastics, sustainability of plastics, plastic working tools and finishing plastics) |
Students will manufacture their clock before evaluating it against their specification. Key skills: Marking out, sawing, shaping, joining, bending, finishing |
