UCAS Mentoring Event at the Hilton Metropole Hotel
This summer, Year 13 Paddington Academy students gained the best exam results and are now looking forward to entering higher education. The new Year 13 students returned after a seven week holiday to a full day at the academy and, for some, an evening at the Hilton Metropole. While in Year 12 five students were lucky enough to have a mentor, Gaurav Bhatnagar, a senior consultant who is currently working at Deloittes who met with them once a week after school. During the summer holiday Gaurav arranged for 11 colleagues/friends from the world of consulting, medicine, media, research, law and marketing to speak to 25 students about their experiences and career paths at the UCAS event. The quality of the presentations and therefore the information the students received was excellent. The students were urged to study a degree in a subject they particularly enjoyed and to be involved, fully, with university life. The latter would help them when applying for jobs and to consider alternative careers once they completed their degree. Osama Salih and Sayid-Ali Hashi were fortunate to have visited the offices of Redshift Strategy during the holiday and were pleased to meet up again with Nick Verkroost. Sayid-Ali said his ‘eyes had been open to working in the field of technology’ something he hadn’t considered before as he is studying maths, economics, psychology and English literature.
