What will students learn? 

In KS5 students will explore three components. Component one - written exam on two set texts 'Bronte' and 'Accidental Death of an Anarchist' and Live Theatre Review. Component two - devising and creating theatre using theatre company processes. Component three - performing a script with an influential practitioner. In all of these components students develop independence, leadership, organisation and presentation skills, making their own decisions from the start to end of a process; great skills for university and beyond.  


In KS5 students will study

Year 12 

The role of the actor, designer and director in the 21st Centaury set text study of 'Bronte' by Polly Teale. Develop analysis and evaluative skills in Live Theatre Review. They will then explore past and present theatre companies building performance and design skills before creating their own piece of theatre to perform to a live audience.  

Year 13 

Further development of either acting or design skills in a choice of scripts for performance, thinking about writers' intentions and adaptations for stage for a live audience. Develop creative agency and demonstrate a wide range of knowledge through creating a concept for staging set text 'Accidental Death of an Anarchist'.  


How will students receive feedback?

At Paddington, all students will receive regular feedback from formative assessment tasks. Within the curriculum, specific tasks are allocated for feedback. This ensures all students gain regular feedback. Teachers will mark student work and provide targeted feedback that enables students to improve their work and make progress. To support student understanding, teachers plan high-quality re-teach time to prepare students for their feedback. Across each term, students will receive feedback from multiple tasks.


What examinations / assessments do students have at the end of KS5? 

Exam board: AQA 

40% Exam Paper - 1 hour 45minutes 

  • Section A - 'Bronte' - Acting, Design, Directing 

  • Section B - 'Accidental Death of an Anarchist' - Overall Concept 

  • Section C - Live Theatre Review 

40% Devising and Written Log Coursework 

20% Script Performance Exam
