Nearly three quarters of students achieve a grade 5 or above in English and maths

Fast on the heels of last week’s A Level success, Paddington Academy is once again celebrating exceptional outcomes as students collect their GCSE results.

Nearly three quarters (72%) of students achieved a grade 5 or above in both English and Maths, with 31% achieving a grade 7 or above in both subjects and 84% achieving grade 4+ in both. In addition to this, a record 20% achieved a Grade 9 in Maths and 22% in Religious Studies, a GCSE taken by all students.

A high percentage (83%) of students at the academy take the English Baccalaureate (which covers five key subjects – English, maths, sciences, a language and history/geography) and 55% of them achieved this at a grade 5 or above in all subjects taken as part of this.

The school’s top performers include:

· Shelby Scott, Shazmin Basit and Najah Rahman who all achieved grade 9s in all ten of their GCSE subjects;

· Majlinda Qamili who achieved eight grade 9s and one grade 8;

· 29 students who achieved all grade 8s and 9s across all of their nine GCSEs.

These results build on last week’s A Level results when an impressive 22% of entries achieved the top A* grade and 33% achieved A grades. 85% of results were graded A*-B. A record 160 students, representing 85% of the cohort, are expected to stay on to the Sixth Form this year.

Shelby SCOTT,  ten grade 9s,  said: " I am very happy and very grateful with my results  -  it doesn't feel real! I want to say thank you to all teachers at Paddington Academy who helped us achieve the results today.  Come to PA: good grades, good school!  I am now excited to join the 6th Form studying French History and Art and hopefully study History or Art at university."

Shazmin BASIT, ten grade 9s, said: " I want to say thank you to all the teachers especially our head of year Miss Enevoldson who helped me with my mental health and for always motivating us when we really needed it. I'm also proud of our whole year because we all worked hard and deserve good grades."

Najah RAHMA, ten grade 9s, said: I am very proud of myself as all the hard work I put in (especially in Year 11) has paid off.  I would like to thank all my teachers and especially my head of year Miss Enevoldson for the everyday motivation but in particular towards the end when it got really tough, and we needed it the most. I am proud of everyone in my year, we did it! I look forward to seeing everyone in Sixth Form where I will be studying Maths, Psycology, Economics." 

Valdor HASHANI, eight grade 9s, two grade 8s said: "I am very happy with my results and grateful to all my teachers at PA.  Based on my results I would like to do Biology, Chemistry, Maths at A levels and hopefully go on to university to study Medicine as I would love to work in a hospital to help people and do the best around the world."

Congratulating students on their results, Peter Jones, Principal at Paddington Academy, said:

“Year 11 students at Paddington have worked incredibly hard this year. We motivate each Year 11 cohort to work as hard as they can, but this year they have worked harder than ever before, after a disrupted experience in Year 10 during the pandemic. Year 11s began each day of Year 11 with 30 mins of independent study and stayed for an extra hour of lessons each day throughout the year. This enabled their teachers to work hard with them to close any gaps. They rose admirably to the challenges they faced and their teachers supported them incredibly well. It demonstrates how

adversity can drive students to adapt and remain focused on their goals and overcome any barriers. At the same time, they have embraced the enrichment opportunities available to them and it has been pleasing to see how much they have enjoyed their time in Year 11. We couldn’t be more proud of them, and they richly deserve their achievements today as a reward for this.

“We are proud that so many will be staying onto our Sixth Form and that we have a range of pathways and qualifications that enable us to be an inclusive Sixth Form, able to serve our community and allow the majority of them to continue their education here and achieve exceptional outcomes.”
