At Paddington Academy, character is built through culture.

We set high expectations, model them every day, and create an environment where integrity, respect, and kindness are the norm.

Our core values—Hard Work, Integrity, Excellence—guide every decision and keep our words and actions aligned. Through consistent routines and high standards, students build habits that shape their character: self-discipline, resilience, organisation, and perseverance.

Proud to be awarded the Quality Mark from the Association for Character Education (ACE)

In recognition of our outstanding commitment to character development andour whole-school approach to nurturing confident, resilient and thoughtful young people, we have been awarded the Quality Mark. We help students grow not just through daily expectations, but through enriching experiences—our external speaker programme, playground pop‑ups, and a wide range of opportunities that broaden horizons.

Personal Development Entitlement

Personal Development Entitlement

Our personal development programme is built on an entitlement model: every student takes part in a core set of experiences each year. Using the Jubilee Centre’s Virtue Framework, students earn virtue points across four areas—Intellectual, Moral, Civic, and Performance. Points are tracked half‑termly, and all students in Years 7–13 are expected to earn at least one point in each category. Most go far beyond this—last year, 100% of students in Years 7–10 and 12 met their full entitlement.

For Years 11 and 13, whose focus is preparation for future pathways, we run dedicated Enrichment Weeks featuring house competitions, external speakers, careers workshops, networking opportunities, and cooking sessions.

Extra‑Curricular Entitlement

Extra‑Curricular Entitlement

Our extra‑curricular offer blends both chosen and taught experiences.
All students in Years 7–9 attend a compulsory weekly club, rotating twice a year so they take part in three different clubs annually. Students submit preferences once a year, and for the remaining terms we place them in clubs that broaden their experience—everything from baking and pottery to Minecraft, cricket, origami, football, and music tech.

To bring joy and spontaneity to school life, we host weekly playground pop‑ups—games, performances and activities designed to spark curiosity and lift the energy in the day.

Alongside this, our external speaker programme gives every year group one inspiring speaker per term. Guests have included Alastair Campbell, Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson, and Sustainable London, whose workshops help develop STEM skills and presentation confidence.

Leadership & Service

Leadership & Service

We are committed to building a culture of service, and leadership sits at the heart of this. Our Junior Leadership Team is one of the strongest aspects of school life, with roles including Head Boy and Head Girl, Heads of House, Climate Committee, Newsletter Editors, Community of Belonging, Prefects, and lower‑school representatives on the School Council and Paddington Press.

This year, student interest reached a record high—112 Year 12 students applied for 24 leadership positions. The calibre was so impressive that we expanded the number of roles to give as many students as possible the chance to lead and serve.

Civic Mission & Fundraising

Civic Mission & Fundraising

Our commitment to service extends across the community. Over the past two years, students have raised more than £10,000 annually for local, national, and global charities. Each term, the Junior Leadership Team selects a charity and leads the fundraising mission through assemblies, events, and inter‑house competitions.

We are proud of our partnership with PiP, a local organisation supporting young adults with learning disabilities. This collaboration has deepened students’ understanding of inclusion while offering meaningful experiences for both communities.

Students also support:

  • Macmillan Cancer Support through annual bake sales
  • Sufra Food Bank with regular collections
  • Save the Children, helping children around the world

Cake, cookie, ice‑cream, and pancake sales—along with non‑uniform days—create excitement and drive participation, with student leaders taking full responsibility for planning and running each event

Our House System

Our House System plays a pivotal role in fostering belonging and community.

The houses—Equiano, Hawking, Seacole, and Lovelace—were chosen through a whole-school vote and reflect our values and diversity. Houses create a framework for care and competition: students belong to a team, support one another, demonstrate loyalty and leadership, and uphold integrity. Through inter-house competitions in sports, arts, and fundraising, students develop resilience, teamwork, and a sense of pride in their community.
