Central London Teaching School Hub

Teaching school hubs are school-led centres of excellence for teacher and leadership training and development. There are 87 hubs across the country and are made up of some of the best schools and multi-academy trusts.

Paddington Academy is a DfE-designated Teaching School Hub and serves schools across the boroughs of Camden, Islington, Hammersmith & Fulham, Kensington and Chelsea and Westminster. We provide programmes across our multi-academy trust, United Learning. We are proud to provide high-quality professional development to teachers at all stages of their careers.

We offer programmes to teachers at all stages of their careers:

School-based initial teacher training (ITT)

The Central London Teaching School Hub is proud to work in partnership with local schools in our Teaching School Hub region to provide high-quality training and develop exceptional teachers. Our designated Lead Provider for school-based teacher training, United Teaching, is rated ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted.

Last year, we worked with over 400 ITT trainees. Trainees gain Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) by the end of the year and go on to make a lasting impact in the classroom and beyond, with over 70% many securing permanent positions in their placement school.

The Early Career Framework

All newly qualified teachers (ECTs) are required to complete a two-year Induction period. Central London Teaching School Hub delivers fully-funded provider-led option in partnership with Ambition Institute. We provide an evidence-based professional development programme and are partnered with education charity Ambition Institute to deliver this. ECTs are receive regular, tailored support from their mentors, who carry out instructional coaching and provide, in some instances, pastoral support in a safe, non-assessed way.

The Central London Teaching School Hub works with over 500 ECTs in their first and second year of induction and with over 350 mentors across schools in the Hub. We provide high-quality training to ECTs who receive a comprehensive curriculum of online self-study to support their development in key areas of behaviour, instruction, curriculum and assessment and professional practice and attend face-to-face conferences or twilights delivered by our partnership schools. Mentors provide ECTs with regular coaching and in turn receive dedicated training and support.
