RECORD-BREAKING A LEVEL RESULTS

Two students secure places at Cambridge, plus a range of further Russell Group successes

Staff and students at Paddington Academy are today celebrating the best results in the school’s 11 year history, having continued an eight-year trend of improvement.

Today’s overall results saw figures rise to their highest ever at the school:

·      30% of A Level grades were awarded the highest marks of A* or A;

·      67% of A Level grades were awarded A*-B;

·      93% of A Level grades were awarded A*-C.

These results mean that students at the academy will take up increasingly competitive university places, with more accepting places at prestigious Russell Group universities than ever before.

Among the individuals celebrating today were two students who have secured places at Cambridge:

· Qamil Pajaziti, who obtained 3 A*s in Maths, Chemistry and Further Maths and an A in Biology and will take up a place at Trinity Hall at Cambridge to read Medicine; 

· Izzy El-Dandrawy, who obtained an A* in English and As in History and Sociology and will take up a place at Fitzwilliam College to read History.

Qamil and Izzy will be the Academy’s fifth and sixth students in recent years to accept an Oxbridge place.

Other top performers at Paddington Academy included:

· Mahdi Uddin, who  achieved 2 A*s and 1 A and will read Maths and Economics at the London School of Economics (LSE);

· Ahmed Abdulla, who achieved an A* and 2 As and will study Maths and Economics at University College London (UCL);

· Lirak Krasniqi, whose A*, A and B grades mean he will take up a place at Kings College, London to read Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE);

· Granit Sylejmani, who achieved an A* and 2 As and will study Maths and Economics at London School of Economics (LSE).

Others in the Sixth Form were celebrating excellent results for vocational qualifications. 90% of all BTEC entries, which include Applied Science and Business, were Distinction or Distinction*. This represents the Academy’s highest performance ever in these qualifications.

The Paddington Academy Sixth Form has grown significantly over the last five years and this year’s cohort contained 148 students. There has been a steady increase in the number of A Level entries, with the school maintaining high grade standards in terms of outcomes for students.

Upon receiving her results today, Izzy El-Dandrawy said: “I’m very happy to get the chance to study at Cambridge despite all odds. All the hard work finally paid off. I couldn’t have done it without the support from my teachers, Ms Walters, Mr Hull, Mr Farci and a special thank you to Ms White, who has been a rock for me both academically and personally."

Happy with his results too, Lirak Krasniqi, said: “I would like to thank Mr Inniss for being an incredible teacher and always supporting me through my sixth form journey.  He was a teacher and a mentor and I feel proud to have got an A* in his subject.”

Offering all the students his congratulations, Peter Jones, Principal at Paddington Academy, said:

“Everyone in the academy can take immense pride in these results today, which are the culmination of years of hard work and dedication from our students and staff alike.

“While all our students deserve credit for their achievements, we are particularly pleased for Qamil and Izzy on their Cambridge offers. Their success demonstrates that our students can continue to compete with the best students from any school in the country.
