Key Stage 5 Curriculum

Overview

Our explicit aim as a school is to provide all students the opportunity to attend a good university, this is something that is a strong aspiration in our community. It is our aim that as many of our Year 11 students stay on for sixth form at Paddington as possible.

Over the two years of Key Stage five, we want to prepare students for studying at university. It is our aim to prepare students to successfully apply to university, to achieve the academic and vocational qualifications necessary to enter university and then to thrive there. Details of examinations that students take at the end of Key Stage 5 can be found here.

Pathways

A significant strength of our sixth form is the wide range of subjects we have on offer and the multiple combinations of subjects that students can take. We invite students to apply for one of three pathways:

A level pathway

Study 3  A-levels

Combined pathway

Study a 120 credit BTEC and 1 A-level

BTEC pathway

Study a 180 credit BTEC

All of these pathways lead to a place at university and we will help students pick the pathway which is right for them to ensure that they achieve the best possible grades. In addition to this, students aspiring to a top university have the opportunity to study four A levels if they have achieved a majority of grades 8/9 at GCSE. Any students who have not yet achieved a 5 in either English Language or Maths GCSE will receive timetabled lessons to prepare them to retake this qualification.
