What will students learn?

Students study a range of topics covering current trends in French-speaking society, aspects of the artistic culture in French-speaking countries and aspects of political life in the French-speaking world. Students will also study a book and a film and will conduct an individual research project.  


In KS5 students will study

Year 13
  • Positive aspects of a diverse society
  • Life for the marginalised

  • Politics and immigration
  • The book: l’étranger

How will students receive feedback?

At Paddington, all students will receive regular feedback from formative assessment tasks. Within the curriculum, specific tasks are allocated for feedback. This ensures all students gain regular feedback. Teachers will mark student work and provide targeted feedback that enables students to improve their work and make progress. To support student understanding, teachers plan high-quality re-teach time to prepare students for their feedback. Across each term, students will receive feedback from multiple tasks.


What examinations / assessments do students have at the end of KS5?

Exam board: AQA

Students will sit three exams at the end of KS5.

Paper 1: Listening, Reading, Translation Exam - 2 hours 30 minutes

Paper 2: Writing Exam - 2 hours – Analysis of Book and Film studied

Paper 3: Speaking Exam - 20-25 minutes


What resources can be used to support learning?

  • Students should use the website ‘memrise’ to practice vocabulary. Every week, a new course with vocabulary will be set on memrise.
  • Students in KS5 have access to a carefully selected revision guide that covers the material for the study of the book and the film.
  • Students in KS5 have access to an online platform – Kerboodle.com which complements the textbook and offers assessment and revision resources.
  • Students in KS5 have been given Verb tables and Golden phrases documents to support both grammar and language acquisition.
  • Students complete revision mind maps for each topics in school, which should be used to support independent revision.
